Hawaii, as tourist bureaus and Hollywood constantly remind us, is ‘paradise.’ Push past the hype and what do you find? Hawaii is hiking sculpted cliffs or diving coral-reef cities in the morning and drinking mai tais to slack-key guitar at sunset. It’s slurping juicy papayas with hibiscus flowers in your hair; its Pacific Rim cuisine, fiery volcanoes and cavorting whales. By serendipity and design, Hawaii is an almost flawless destination. It’s an enchanting multicultural society with roots in Polynesia, Asia, North America and Europe, and it’s an expression of nature at its most luscious and divine.

More Asian than American, Honolulu is a delightful blend of ethnicities, a cacophonous mixture of language, custom and cuisine served with generous helpings of Hawaiian hospitality. Among its many museums and cultural offerings, it has the only royal palace in the USA, and has become a foodie heaven of cheap noodle joints and fancy Pacific Rim cuisine. Then, when city life is all too much, you can saunter over to gorgeous Waikiki to lounge on the sand, play in the water and listen to splendid Hawaiian music in the evening.

The next to largest of all Hawaiian Islands, Maui is a land blessed with fertile lands, beautiful beaches, and colourful scenery. Rich in history and tradition, this is probably among the most famous of all places in Hawaii. Among the other places in this town, there is nothing that comes close to the city of Kahului.

Besides being a rare surviving example of an Hawaiian plantation town, cultural diversity is one of Hilo's special charms. The local term, "mixed plate", describes well the impact made by Polynesians, Chinese, Japanese, Portuguese, Koreans, other Pacific Islanders and Europeans on Hilo's mixed-race culture of today. All these ethnic groups blend in the faces of the people who give Hilo its charm. Its diverse shopping opportunities, its small scale and its friendliness makes Hilo the perfect town in which to linger just a little longer.

The Island of Hawai'i is sometimes called the Orchid Isle or the Volcano Isle, but to its residents it's always "the Big Island of Hawaii." A Big Island vacation excites the senses and inspires the adventurer. You can hike into a volcano crater, catch marlin weighing hundreds of pounds, stare into the heavens from the snow-capped summit of Mauna Ke'a, and relax, swim, kayak, and snorkel at a black sand, white sand, or even green sand beach.  The Big Island has the world's most active volcano: Kilauea has been spewing lava since January 3, 1983.

Beautiful Nawiliwili is your passage into the sacred "Garden Isle," where the sweet smell of the mokihana berry permeates the air and the lush green landscape intoxicates your senses. This is a land of rain forests and smooth, rounded mountains, cascading waterfalls and towering ocean cliffs. A land so beautiful that even the natives come here for the scenery.
